Modest dress code for darshan

We ask devotees to dress modestly in traditional or decent attire when visiting the shrine; revealing or Western-style clothing such as shorts, mini skirts and ripped jeans may be turned away. The rule took effect on 7 July 2025.

Visitor impact: dress modestly — cover shoulders and knees — to avoid being refused entry. See the visitor guidelines for what to wear.

In force since 7 July 2025. Please dress modestly out of respect for the shrine.

Monsoon caution for the climb and roads

During the monsoon the hillside sees heavy rainfall, the stone steps become slippery, and visibility and road conditions can deteriorate around Lonavala and the Maval area. Local authorities sometimes issue seasonal advisories or restrictions on visiting waterfalls and viewpoints in the district.

Visitor impact: wear non-slip footwear, allow extra travel time, and avoid the steps in heavy rain. Check current best-time and weather guidance and Pune district advisories before you set out.

Seasonal guidance. Please re-check the latest Pune district / Maval advisories close to your travel date, as orders are issued year by year.

Proposed Karla ropeway — approved, not operational

A ropeway to ease the climb is an approved project associated with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). As things stand it is a planned, approved project and is not built or running.

Visitor impact: there is no ropeway or assisted lift available now — the shrine is reached on foot up the steps. Do not plan around a ropeway being available.

Approved but not operational. Please treat any "ropeway open" claim with caution — the climb is on foot.

Official notices — closures, special darshan arrangements, festival timings — should be confirmed via the Trust's own channels. If you spot a discrepancy, please get in touch.
