Our picture policy, and an honest note on sources

Our image policy

Photographs help convey the atmosphere of the temple, the climb and the Karla Caves, and we want to use them responsibly. Our policy is straightforward:

  • Owned, licensed or public-domain only. We aim to publish a picture only when we own it, have a licence or permission to use it, or it is genuinely in the public domain.
  • Attribution where required. Where a licence or courtesy calls for a credit, we aim to name the source and link to the original where appropriate.
  • No hotlinking. We host our images on our own site rather than linking to files on other people's servers, which avoids using their bandwidth without consent.
  • Respect for sacred and protected subjects. The temple is a living place of worship and the caves are an ASI-protected monument; we try to use images respectfully and in context.

Image provenance

We are finalising the credits for several photographs used across the site. We keep an internal record of image sources and licences and are confirming each picture's origin and rights before publishing the final credits here. Until that is complete, the table below marks those images as “to be confirmed” rather than guessing.

If you are the photographer or rights-holder of any image on this site, or you recognise where an image came from, please get in touch via the Report a Correction page. We will gladly add the correct credit, update the licence note, or remove the image if asked.
